As an estimator you will be responsible for estimating projects; developing sales leads and preparing bid proposals. The preparation of bid proposal packages includes compiling and summarizing cost data, writing and submitting the proposal to customers who are bidding the job and following up on the submitted proposal.

More specifically this work entails reviewing project plans & specs; contacting architects, general contractors or others in order to obtain necessary information pertaining to projects; developing detailed listings of materials needed, labor units, etc., as well as development of pricing for change orders as requested by project managers.

In addition you will be developing and tracking sales leads. You will be soliciting bid documents from current and/or potential clients and recommending projects to bid to top management. You will also participate in sale closings, which includes meeting with clients and negotiating terms and prices within established policy limits.

The estimating position also includes working with the Project Managers on matters such as materials pricing, fabrication methods or other similar areas pertaining to a project. Estimating also works as a liaison with purchasing manager in order to keep abreast of purchasing strategies, material pricing and/or vendor selection, as well as working with the Accounting Department in providing complete file information on awarded jobs.
